Cookie and I have gone up to Forest Lakes on the Mogollon Rim on several past occasions, always during the winter to enjoy the snow. This year Cookie also indulged me and we did a winter hike on our favorite trail ... Horton Creek.
First, we stayed in cabin #2 at Ponderosa Cabins in the Forest Lakes area just up on top of the rim. This is a tiny little cabin, but we love it because of the loft. We don't need much room to sit around and do nothing, this cabin suites us just fine. Here are a few photos around the outside of the cabin.

In the past we have made snowmen and ridden sleds on the very nice snows runs, but this year we slogged our way up the Horton Creek trail. It was in the 50s, but there was snow and plenty of water. The trail was dry in a few places, but most of the time it was muddy, mushy, slushy or snowy.

The last time we came up here, Nan and Elmer stopped by on their way home (Elmer had just recently broken his ankle hiking in southern Arizona). They made a quick stop the day that we arrived, then left, heading home to Colorado. Good thing they left when they did, that night we got a foot of snow and we were snowed in for the two days that we planned on being there.
